Kate and I in the back

Kate and I are seated in the back of the car.

Mom and Dad are up front

Mom and Dad are seated in the front of the car.

Driving down our street

We are driving down our street.

Snow on the tall pines

There is snow on the tall pine trees.

A three mile drive

The drive is three miles long.

I've waited a lifetime

I have been eagerly waiting for this moment.

Dad grabs the saw and a pair of gloves from out the trunk

Dad takes a saw and gloves from the trunk.

He puts me on the wagon and points as far as I can see and says

He places me on a wagon and gestures towards the vast landscape, expressing excitement.

"We're on our way!"

We are officially on our way.

And then we all got lost in the evergreens

We all became absorbed in the beauty of the evergreen trees.

And he was looking at me to see which one had caught my eye

Dad is observing me to identify which tree has captured my attention.

And it was probably a foot too big but we cut it down

We probably choose a tree that is slightly too large, but we decide to cut it down.

And when we got it back home the top had scratched the ceiling

Upon returning home, the top of the tree has scratched the ceiling.

Leaving a new mark where the old marks had been made

A new mark is left, joining the existing marks on the ceiling.

And when we all got lost in the evergreens

We once again find ourselves lost in the enchantment of the evergreen trees.

Dad was looking at me to see which one had caught my eye

Dad is watching me to identify the tree that has caught my eye.

And it was a foot too big but we cut it down

We select a tree that is slightly too big but decide to cut it down.

And when we got it back home the top had scratched the ceiling

Upon returning home, the top of the tree has scratched the ceiling.

Leaving a new mark where the old marks had been made

A new mark is left, joining the existing marks on the ceiling.
