Expressing an intention not to provoke anger with spoken words.
But when I try to shut my mouth they come out anyway

When I speak my mind, that's when we connect

But that's not politically correct
Acknowledging that authentic expression may not align with political correctness.
Our heads are so filled with thought, we can't use our imagination
Highlighting the prevalence of overthinking, hindering imaginative expression.
Like a sky so filled with stars, you can't find a constellation
Drawing a metaphor about the difficulty in finding clarity amid numerous distractions.
And everyone's so sensitive to every bad vibration
Noting heightened sensitivity to negativity and discomfort in society.
We're so impressing while we're regressing
Commenting on societal regression despite the desire to impress others.
There's nothing I believe in more than my own insignificance
Expressing a belief in personal insignificance amid a larger context.
So why does everybody think that my words can make a difference
Questioning the impact of personal words on a larger scale.
I just don't have time to think up every social consequence
Claiming a lack of time to consider every social consequence.
I'll just keep on talking you keep applauding
Choosing to speak without restraint while receiving applause.

Acknowledging the difficulty of self-censorship.
If you spoke your mind you might feel more connected
Suggesting that speaking one's mind fosters a sense of connection.
Until you get politically corrected
Anticipating resistance and correction when expressing unfiltered thoughts.
You lean a little to the left or the right but
Highlighting the tendency to adopt a biased perspective.
You can only see what's on your side.
Limiting vision to one's own viewpoint, possibly leading to narrow-mindedness.
Look a little like a deer in the headlights
Comparing a person's state of mind to a deer caught off guard.
A little blind a little hypnotized.
Describing a state of being both blind and hypnotized.
So you conform with the best of intention
Encouraging internal change rather than conforming externally.
Change comes from inside.
Emphasizing the belief that positive change originates from within.
After all that's what this country was founded on
Reflecting on the founding principles of the country, advocating conformity.
Do nothing different just fall in line.
Criticizing blind adherence to established norms without questioning.
What happened to make us so afraid
Pondering the reasons behind societal fear and caution.
You couldn't make a Mel Brooks movie today
Referencing the changing social climate and potential censorship in modern times.
I saw Blazing Saddles yesterday
Referencing a classic movie to illustrate shifting cultural norms.
