The end of a journey or phase is approaching.
And so I face the final curtain

I did what I had to do
Doing what was necessary, facing challenges head-on.
And saw it through without exemption
Completing tasks without exceptions or excuses.
I planned each charted course
Having a planned and deliberate approach to life.
Each careful step along the byway
Taking careful steps along life's journey.
And more, much more than this
Highlighting achievements beyond the norm.
I did it my way
Emphasizing the uniqueness of doing things in one's way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
Acknowledging challenging times that others may be aware of.
When I bit off more than I could chew
Admitting to taking on more than one can handle at times.
But through it all, when there was doubt
Facing uncertainties and challenges with resilience.
I ate it up and spit it out
Confronting difficulties with strength and determination.
I faced it all and I stood tall
Facing all challenges with courage and confidence.
And did it my way
Reiterating the accomplishment of doing things independently.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
Experiencing the various emotions of love, laughter, and sorrow.
I've had my fill my share of losing
Having a fair share of both successes and failures.
And now, as tears subside
As emotional pain diminishes, finding amusement in it all.
I find it all so amusing
Reflecting on past actions with a sense of humor.
To think I did all that
Contemplating the magnitude of past achievements.
And may I say - not in a shy way
Asserting confidence, not in a reserved manner.
Oh no, oh no, not me
Denying conformity to societal expectations.
I did it my way
Emphasizing the self-driven nature of accomplishments.
For what is a man, what has he got
Pondering the essence of a person's existence.
If not himself, then he has naught
If one doesn't have authenticity, they have nothing.
To say the things he truly feels
Advocating expressing true feelings without reservation.
And not the words of one who kneels
Contrasting genuine expression with submissive language.
The record shows I took the blows
Records confirm enduring hardships, faced with resilience.
And did it my way
Reaffirming the uniqueness of the self-directed journey.
Yes, it was my way
Summarizing life's journey as a personal and independent achievement.
