Embracing Dance Beyond AgeLyrics
She'd come to my house
She would visit my home
And dance in the hall
And dance in the hallway
With the music up loud
With loud music playing
Against the light on the wall
Creating shadows on the wall
I danced beside her
I joined her in dancing
Feeling no shame
Without feeling embarrassed
We were in costume
We were both dressed up
And this was a game
Seeing it as a playful activity
She'd put on her skirt
She wore a layered chiffon skirt
Of layers of chiffon
With multiple flowing fabrics
The top of the umbrella had come off
The umbrella was missing its top part
So I put that on
So I used it as a headpiece
We'd dance together then
We danced together in an awkward manner
An awkward ballet
Like an uncomfortable ballet
She was 20 years older than I was
Despite the age gap
But still we did play
We engaged in playful behavior
She was 20 years older than me
She was two decades older than me
And many times my size
And significantly larger
But it's her little feet I remember
But I remember her small feet distinctly
And the look in her eyes
And the expression in her eyes
Once when I saw her
Once, she crafted a doll for me
She made me a doll
Using ribbon, paper, ink, and lace
Of ribbon and paper and ink
Reflecting her creative gesture
And lace, I recall
As far as my memory serves
I danced beside her
I continued dancing with her
Feeling no shame
Without feeling self-conscious
We were in costume
We both remained in costume
And this was a game
Viewing it as a playful activity
I think of her now I'm older
As I've aged, I still enjoy dancing
I still love to dance
It remains a cherished activity
Something will shine through the body
There's something radiant within the body
If you give it a chance
If given the opportunity
