Life Goes On
Love's Journey Through Tears and TriumphsLyrics
Back in nineteen-ninety-four
Reflecting on a past event in 1994.
I fell head over heals for the boy next door
Fell deeply in love with the boy living nearby.
I prayed every night and day
Prayed consistently day and night.
That God would turn his head my way
Hoping for divine intervention to notice her.
Graduation he moved on
He moved away after graduation.
Broke my heart like a country song
His departure caused heartbreak likened to a country song.
Must have cried two rivers long
Experienced profound sadness, cried a lot.
Oh, but life goes on
Life continues despite hardships.
And before too long
With time, one realizes their rightful place.
You figure out you're right where you belong
Life's mix of sadness and happiness.
It's sad and it's sweet
Emotionally poignant, yet bittersweet.
But if you're lucky it keeps going on and on and on
Life's fortunate continuity despite challenges.
Then came nineteen-ninety-nine
Referencing events in 1999.
My heart broke for the second time
Endured heartbreak for the second time.
Left me cryin' on the steps
Cried intensely, feeling emotionally devastated.
Burned me down like a cigarette
Felt emotionally burnt and hurt.
Just like that and he was gone
Similar abrupt departure causing immense pain.
My heart sunk like a ten pound stone
Feeling of intense emotional weight.
Hand no right to do me wrong
Belief in not deserving mistreatment.
Oh, but life goes on
Life carries on despite adversities.
And before too long
Realizing one's rightful place with time.
You figure out you're right where you belong
Life's combination of sorrow and joy.
It's sad and it's sweet
Emotionally touching and yet mixed feelings.
But if you're lucky it keeps going on and on and on
Fortunate continuation of life's journey.
My mamm always said that they'll be lesson that you learn
Advice from her mother about learning from life's lessons.
You don't need to know 'em all right now
Realization that one doesn't need immediate knowledge of all lessons.
But I'm learning as I go
Learning through life experiences.
And the more I learn I know
Realization that as knowledge grows, the desire for more diminishes.
The less I want to know anyhow
Reduced interest in gaining more knowledge anyway.
I finally found my whole world
Discovering completeness with a family.
Little boy and a little girl
Having both a son and daughter, feeling fulfilled.
Got me a man with a heart of gold
Found a loving husband with a good heart.
It all came back a hundred fold
Received immense love and happiness in return.
And I watch the gravel kickin' up
Watching her husband return home.
As he pull in the drive in his pick-up truck
Seeing him arrive in his pickup truck.
I just smile and my good luck
Feeling fortunate and happy about her life.
Oh, but life goes on
Life persists despite challenges faced.
And before too long
Realization of one's place in due time.
You figure out you're right where you belong
Mixture of sadness and happiness in life's journey.
It's sad and it's sweet
Emotional complexity, a blend of poignant feelings.
But if you're luck it keeps going on and on and on
Fortunate continuation of life's journey.
