Then you walked right through the doorway

You tell me you're here to stay
Assurance of the person's intention to stay.
And the worst is gone and back I'd holler,
Expressing relief from the absence of the worst.
Had you been here this way
Reflecting on how things would have been different if the person had been present earlier.
I surprise myself sometimes
Expressing surprise at one's own actions or emotions.
The way the days unfold and this road unwinds
Reflecting on the unfolding of days and the journey.
You tell me you see it too
Acknowledgment of shared perceptions with the other person.
And the miles feel like inches when I think of you
Time feels insignificant when thinking about the person.
It's been twenty five days that I've been gone
Quantifying the time spent away from home.
And twenty five weeks since I've seen my home
Highlighting the duration since being in one's own space.
I spend twenty five months chasing this song
Chasing a passion or a song for a significant period.
And all of this time I've been alone
Emphasizing the loneliness experienced during this time.
You walked right through the doorway
Reiteration of someone entering through a doorway.
You tell me you're here to stay
Reassurance of the person's commitment to stay.
And the worst is gone and back I'd holler,
Reflecting on the relief from past hardships.
Had you been here this way
Imagining a different outcome if the person had been present earlier.
And you knew it all along
Awareness of one's unhappiness over time.
I wasn't happy all along
Recognition that happiness was absent for a while.
And nobody at home had wanted me to just come home
Feeling unwanted at home and the desire to return.
Then you walked right through the doorway

Confirmation of the person's commitment to stay.

Reflecting on the relief from past challenges.
Had you been here this way
Imagining a different outcome if the person had been present earlier.
And I only just learned how to stand like a man
Learning to face life confidently and maturely.
I got twenty five years of running instead
Reflecting on a long period of avoiding responsibilities.
How could I see that girl at my feet
Realization of the significance of a particular person.
Then you came to me and I was caught in the storm
The arrival of someone causing emotional turmoil.
That I wasn't alone
Acknowledging that the storm (emotional turmoil) is shared with the other person.
