Standing by the Bedside of a Neighbor
Journey Beyond: A Neighbor's Message to the Other SideLyrics
I was standing by the bedside of a neighbor
I was present beside someone's bed
Who was just about to cross a swellin' tide
That person was on the verge of facing a challenging situation or transition
And I asked him if he would do me a favor
I requested a favor from the person about to face the challenge
Kindly take this message to the other side
The favor was to deliver a message to the other side, possibly the afterlife
Well, if you see him tell him that you saw me
If you encounter the person on the other side, inform them that you saw me
When you saw me, I was on my way
When you saw me last, I was on my way, possibly on a journey
You may meet some more friends who may ask about me
There might be others asking about me; let them know I will return someday
But tell'em I am comin' home some day
Well, you have to make this journey on without me
Accept that you have to continue the journey without me
Sooner or later, sooner or later it's a debt that must be paid
Acknowledges the inevitability of facing one's dues sooner or later
When you reach that goal it's when you think about me
When you achieve your goal, remember me
But don't forget to tell my Savior what I say
Make sure to convey my words to the Savior
You may chance to meet my mother and my father
You might encounter my family or friends
Or some friends whom I can't recall
There are some friends whose names I can't recall
You may chance to meet my brother and my father
Mention my brother and father if you meet them
But don't forget to see my Savior first of all
But prioritize informing my Savior above all
(Well) I was standing by the bedside of a neighbor
Who was just about to cross a swellin' tide
Reiteration of the scene from the beginning
And I asked him if he would do me a favor
Repeat of the situation the neighbor is facing
Kindly take this message to the other side
Repetition of the request to deliver a message to the other side
