Lyrics

Like as to make our appetite more keen

Similar to how we stimulate our appetite,

With eager compounds we our palate urge,

We use enticing mixtures to prompt our taste buds,

As to prevent our maladies unseen,

To avoid unseen illnesses,

We sicken to shun sickness when we purge.

We make ourselves sick through purging to prevent sickness.

But thence I learn and find the lesson true:

However, from this, I comprehend and confirm the truth:

Drugs poison him that so fell sick of you.

Medications harm the person who became so ill because of you.

Even so being full of your ne'er-cloying sweetness,

Similarly, despite being content with your endlessly pleasing nature,

To bitter sauces did I frame my feeding

I adapted my diet to include bitter flavors,

And, sick of welfare, found a kind of meetness

And, tired of well-being, I found it somewhat appropriate

To be diseased ere that there was true needing.

To become unwell before the actual necessity arose.

But thence I learn and find the lesson true:

Yet again, from this, I comprehend and confirm the truth:

Drugs poison him that so fell sick of you.

Medications harm the person who became so ill because of you.

Thus policy in love t' anticipate

Thus, in love, the strategy to anticipate

The ills that were not, grew to faults assured,

Nonexistent problems grew into assumed faults,

And brought to medicine a healthful state

Leading to the need for a cure that transformed into a healthy state,

Which, rank of goodness, would by ill be cured.

Which, overflowing with goodness, would be harmed by evil.

But thence I learn and find the lesson true:

Once more, from this, I comprehend and confirm the truth:

Drugs poison him that so fell sick of you.

Medications harm the person who became so ill because of you.

But thence I learn and find the lesson true:

Once again, from this, I comprehend and confirm the truth:

Drugs poison him that so fell sick of you.

Medications harm the person who became so ill because of you.
