Without Mythologies
Unveiling Winter's Echo: A Poetic Journey through Nature's EmbraceLyrics
A soft breeze
A gentle breeze
With the slippery concrete black and full of muddy slush
The pavement is slippery, dark, and covered in muddy slush
Contrasting with the hoarfrost, clean and hung
The contrast of hoarfrost, clean and suspended, on trees shivering silently
On a tunnel of silent shivering trees
Describing a scene of nature with trees resembling a tunnel
The ones you said you'd like to be
The trees represent something the speaker wants to become
And the birds that screamed at the sun
Birds vocalizing loudly at the sun
Now buried deep below the ground
Reference to buried memories or emotions
Beneath the snow, I press my shoulder to this wall between us
Pressing against a metaphorical wall separating two individuals, buried beneath the snow
I know you are behind me and I press my shoulder to this wall
Awareness of the other person's presence without turning around
Determined not to turn around
Determined not to face the past or acknowledge it
I didn't see you standing
The person wasn't noticed, appearing as a mental statue for the speaker to kiss
Still that statue that I molded in my mind to kiss
Imagery of beauty frozen forever
So beautiful you'll never move again
A poignant realization of the person's immobility
Someplace far away
Describing a distant place with a melancholic atmosphere
At some sad table littered with chipped plates
A setting with worn-out plates and dim lighting
With bad light in 48 frames from a movie on the cutting room floor
Reference to discarded scenes from a film editing process
You said, "True meaning would be dying with you"
A statement about the true meaning being lost without the person
And though I wanted to, I did not smile
Despite the desire to smile, the speaker refrains
But now I will give up on this wall that I have fought with
The decision to give up on the metaphorical wall
Never uncover meaning behind our rich words
A resolution not to seek meaning in complex words
If I could I would make you a raging river
An expression of the speaker's desire to change the situation drastically
With angry rapids, plied with rain
Creating an intense and tumultuous river as a metaphor
So you could always meander
Desire for the person to have the freedom to wander and escape
And forever be able to run away
Wishing for perpetual escape and freedom
Without contending
Seeking a resolution without struggling
With myths wrongly interpreted
Avoiding misunderstandings and misinterpretations of myths
With pain
Refusing to engage with emotional pain
A harsh wind
A description of a harsh wind
A harsh wind
Repetition of a harsh wind, possibly emphasizing the difficulty
