Longing For Skynet
Humanity's Descent: Reflecting on Lost CompassionLyrics
We had a million chances to learn from mistakes
We had numerous opportunities to learn from errors and missteps.
And still there's no trace of compassion
Despite those chances, there's a complete absence of empathy or kindness.
We would lick the greasy floor of hell
We'd endure extreme hardship just to witness our own reflection, implying desperation or obsession.
Just to see our reflection
Even if the powerful oppress the weak, we intentionally avoid interfering.
When the strong engorged themselves on the weak
The scent or sensation of our own blood becomes prevalent in the environment.
We made sure not to come in between the beast and its meat
In forsaking progress, we regress to a primitive state, resembling cannibalistic behavior metaphorically.
The taste of our own blood filled the air
Struggling in your own overwhelming dominance until the inevitable realization dawns.
As we forgot centuries of progress and became like cannibals
There's a point of no return, a realization that things cannot be reversed.
Waste away in your overbearance till the day you realize it's over
If your excessive self-love or admiration is more valuable than the future of humanity,
And there is no turning back
Then our lives are being squandered without purpose.
If your self-admiration is worth the fate of all mankind
Every day presents challenges, but the harm done is irreparable now.
Then we're simply wasting our lives
We're left waiting for societal change to eradicate this metaphorical infection.
Every day we're put to the test
Similar to line #4, avoiding intervention when the powerful exploit the weak.
But damage is beyond repair now
Hope for a better future has been annihilated with no hope of recovery.
We can't help but wait for the world to get rid of this infection
No celebratory acknowledgment for the loss of hope or positive change.
When the strong engorged themselves on the weak
One day, a significant change occurred without notice or warning.
We made sure not to come in between the beast and its meat
Same as line #7, a reflection on the consequences of extreme dominance.
The last glimmer of hope was slaughtered with no looking back
Reinforcing the idea that a point of no return was reached with no regrets.
There was no parade
There's no acknowledgment or celebration for the disappearance of hope or progress.
One day we turned around and it was gone
Gradual realization that there's no way to revert to a previous state.
Waste away in your overbearance till the day you realize it's over
Similar to line #8, the consequences of excessive self-absorption and its irreversible nature.
And there is no turning back
Understanding the impossibility of reversing irreversible actions.
If your self-admiration is worth the fate of all mankind
If valuing oneself over the fate of humanity persists,
Then we're simply wasting our lives
Then our lives are being wasted without contributing positively to the collective good.
