Lyrics
The towers that shoulder your pride
The structures that support your sense of accomplishment and pride
The words you've written in stone
The permanent declarations or beliefs you've etched into unyielding materials
Sand will cover them, sand will cover you
Eventually, time will cover them and also engulf you, symbolizing impermanence and mortality
The streets that suffer your name
The roads or places named after you or associated closely with your identity
Your very flesh and your bones
Your physical body and existence
Sand will cover them, sand will cover you
Just like everything else, they will be covered and forgotten by time
So put your faith in more than steel
Have faith in things beyond material possessions or constructs
Don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust
Do not focus solely on accumulating wealth or valuables that are vulnerable to decay or theft
Where thieves break in and steal
Material possessions are subject to loss and should not be the primary source of security
Pull the fangs from out your heel
Remove the harmful or damaging influences from your life
We live in but a shadow of the real
Our existence is a fleeting reflection of reality
Step out from time, see the dust of nations
Step away from the constraints of time and observe the remains of past civilizations
Step out from time, hear the stars ovation
Step beyond the limitations of time and hear the acknowledgment of cosmic forces
Saturn will not sleep, until the sand has made us clean
Time and its effects will persist until cleansing or purifying everything
Still we stack our stones and bury what we can
Despite this understanding, humans continue to construct and preserve, even though it's temporary
But it all will be undone, and nothing built under the sun
All human endeavors will eventually be destroyed or erased by time
Will ever stand before the endless march of sand
Nothing created by humans will withstand the relentless passage of time
