We are the folk song army,
We identify as the Folk Song Army.
Every one of us cares.
All members of the army are compassionate.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice
We collectively oppose poverty, war, and injustice.
Unlike the rest of you squares.
We see ourselves as different from conventional or conservative individuals.
There are innocuous folk songs, yeah,
There are folk songs deemed harmless by us.
But we regard 'em with scorn.
We view those songs with disdain.
The folks who sing 'em have no social conscience,
The singers of innocuous folk songs lack social awareness according to us.
Why, they don't even care if Jimmy Crack Corn.
They are indifferent, even to trivial matters like "Jimmy Crack Corn."
If you feel dissatisfaction,
If dissatisfaction exists, express it through playing music.
Strum your frustrations away.
Playing folk songs is a preferred method to vent frustrations.
Some people may prefer action,
While some may choose activism, we favor folk songs.
But give me a folk song any old day.
Any day, we prefer the comfort of a folk song.
The tune don't have to be clever,
The melody doesn't need to be intricate.
And it don't matter if you put a couple extra syllables into a line.
The structure is irrelevant, even if extra syllables are added.
It sounds more ethnic if it ain't good English
Imperfect English is acceptable if it adds an ethnic quality.
And it don't even gotta rhyme... (excuse me: rhyne!)
Rhyming is optional and can be dismissed as unimportant.
Remember the war against Franco?
Recall the Spanish Civil War against Franco.
That's the kind where each of us belongs.
We align with wars where our strength lies in songs, not battles.
Though he may have won all the battles,
Despite Franco's military victories, we claim cultural success through our songs.
We had all the good songs!
Our songs were superior in quality.
So join in the folk song army!
We invite others to join the Folk Song Army.
Guitars are the weapons we bring
Guitars are our instruments of choice in the battle against societal issues.
To the fight against poverty, war, and injustice.
We use music to combat poverty, war, and injustice.
Ready, aim, sing!
We are prepared to sing and fight for these causes.
