Collecting the remains of past experiences or memories.
Of long dead memories
Reflecting on memories that have long ceased to exist.
To line this rotting hole I've made inside me
Creating a metaphorical hole within oneself and attempting to fill it.
A scarred and twisted soul is all I've got to show

For this life alone
Expressing the consequences and outcomes of living a solitary life.
Among the dead, among the bones
Being among the dead, perhaps metaphorically disconnected or isolated.
Burn me once
Referring to the potential harm caused by others.
Shame on you
Addressing the first instance of being betrayed or harmed.
Burn me twice
Referring to the responsibility one bears for allowing harm to recur.
Shame on me
Accepting personal accountability for repeated harm.
You'll never get that close
Establishing emotional distance to prevent future harm.
Now while I serve the bones
Committing oneself to serving the bones, possibly metaphorical service to the past or history.
Upon this anger upon this hatred I feed
Feeding on anger and hatred, acknowledging their destructive nature.
These things that somehow nourish will slowly kill me
Recognizing that negative emotions, though sustaining, can be detrimental.
These talismans remind of pain felt over time
Associating certain objects or memories with enduring pain.
Before this life I chose
Reflecting on choices made before the current life, possibly regretting them.
Among the dead, among the bones
Being among the dead and bones, hinting at a sense of detachment or alienation.
