The Bottle
Whiskey Memories: A Heart's Unending EchoLyrics
I just cracked the top on some Jim Beam I just bought
I have just opened a bottle of Jim Beam that I recently purchased.
Took a big ol' swig an' I just set her down
I took a large sip and set the bottle down.
It's a foolish thing to think, that you could kill the hurt with drink
It's foolish to believe that alcohol can numb emotional pain, but it's the only option I see now.
But it's the only thing that I can think of now
Drinking is the only solution I can think of to cope with the pain.
Got her down to the top of the sticker
The liquid level is down to the top of the label.
I wish this stuff would kick in a little quicker
I hope the alcohol takes effect quickly.
I can still see us on that tiltawhirl, spinnin'
Recalling a past memory of being on a tilt-a-whirl with someone, enjoying cotton candy, and a moment with a corn-dog.
Cotton-candy and then when she had mustard on her chin
Reflecting on a specific moment when the person had mustard on their chin.
From that corn-dog that slipped right off of the stick
Remembering a sweet moment on the Ferris wheel.
And that top of the Ferriss wheel kiss
Despite the good memories, the pain persists.
I ain't forgot about that yet
The memory hasn't been forgotten.
But I still have some whiskey left
There is still whiskey left, indicating a continuation of the coping mechanism.
Sure thought I'd be able, once I reached the middle of the label
Expected that reaching the middle of the label would help erase memories, but it hasn't.
That some of those memories would somehow wash away
Despite progress, memories persist.
Now I'm pushin' toward the bottom, an' thoughts of her, yeah, I still got 'em
Approaching the bottom of the bottle, memories of her still linger.
Those shots, I've shot 'em, but they ain't killed yesterday
Attempts to drown the memories with shots have not succeeded.
Just a little below the sticker
The liquid level is just below the sticker on the bottle.
Yeah, I must've got a bad batch of liquor
Speculation that the quality of the liquor might be a factor in the lack of desired effects.
I can still see her standin' there on that sidewalk
Recalling the moment when she left, standing on the sidewalk.
Yellin' out for the taxi that would take her away
She was shouting for a taxi to take her away.
From the arms of the one that still loves her
Expressing love for her despite her departure.
With all of his heart.
The narrator still loves her wholeheartedly.
I ain't forgot about that yet,
Despite the passage of time, the memory of her leaving remains.
But I still have some whiskey left
There is still whiskey left, indicating ongoing attempts to cope.
I just tipped it up an' took the last sip from the cup
Consuming the last sip and throwing the bottle down, expressing emotional pain.
Threw that bottle on the ground an' started to cry
The bottle is now empty, mirroring the emotional emptiness felt.
I know that I've had plenty an' now there just ain't any
Acknowledging excessive drinking and its consequences.
An' I'm just as empty as that bottle inside
Feeling as empty as the now-empty bottle.
