A Little Song
A Melodic Quest for Redemption and LoveLyrics
Well I've got a little tune that I could hum to turn back time
Expressing a desire to go back in time with a nostalgic tune.
Back to all our better days and nights
Reflecting on past better days and nights in a wistful manner.
Well now what a fool to figure that forever you'd be mine
Acknowledging the folly of assuming eternal commitment.
Well I wrote a little rhyme to make it right
Writing a rhyme to attempt to make amends.
And I found a pretty way to say
Finding a delicate way to express the reluctance to let go.
That I can't throw it all away
Stating the unwillingness to discard everything.
A little song to make you stay
Creating a song as a plea for the partner to stay.
Well I've been looking backward now until I've damn near gone blind
Looking back extensively, possibly with regret or longing.
Searching for a pretty sight to see
Searching for something beautiful to ease the pain.
Finding out the only thing I'm needing now to find
Realizing that what is needed is already present.
Is finally standing right in front of me
Finding solace in the current presence of the partner.
And I think I stole a melody
Suspecting the use of a borrowed melody to prevent departure.
To stop you now from leaving me
Using the melody to stop the partner from leaving.
A little song to make you see
Highlighting the song as a means to make the partner understand.
Well you could kill the engine and just cool it for awhile
Suggesting a pause and a chance to relax amidst difficulties.
And I could do my best just to keep it light
Committing to keeping the atmosphere light and positive.
And maybe for a moment you'll remember how to smile
Hoping that a momentary break will bring back joy.
Maybe we're fogetting how to fight
Speculating that conflicts may be eroding the ability to fight.
Well you don't want me anymore
Accepting the partner's apparent rejection.
Just wait until I count to four
Promising a reaction after a brief countdown.
And you're tapping on the hardwood floor
Anticipating a rhythmic response on the floor, possibly frustration.
And I'll sing it for you til I'm blue
Committing to singing despite potential ineffectiveness.
For any good that it could do
Acknowledging the limited impact of the song on the situation.
A little song to pull us through
Expressing hope that the song will help navigate through challenges.
Well I've got a little tune that I could hum to turn back time
Repeating the desire to go back in time with a familiar tune.
Back to all our better days and nights
Recalling fond memories of better days and nights.
Well what fool to figure that forever you'd be mine
Reiterating the realization that eternal commitment was unrealistic.

Reaffirming the attempt to make things right through a written rhyme.
