Lyrics
I'm going to the bridge tonight
I am heading to the bridge tonight.
Venus shines so ever bright
Venus is shining brightly.
Deep in the woods under the stars
Deep within the woods, beneath the stars.
How did I come to get this far?
Reflecting on how I reached this distant point.
Have this feeling, what will I find
I have a premonition, uncertain about what I'll discover.
Around the corner of my mind?
Anticipating something lurking in my subconscious.
A thousand trees of creeping sin
A multitude of sinuous trees.
Dead leaves blowing in the wind
Decaying leaves being blown by the wind.
I'm whistling an old melody
I'm whistling an old tune for protection.
To keep the beast away from me
To ward off an ominous presence.
I hear the call of croaking frogs
Hearing the croaks of frogs, possibly guiding me.
Answering me lost in the fog
Their responses amid the fog seem lost.
I tell myself, everything's fine
Reassuring myself that everything is fine.
Here in these woods, for the first time
Experiencing these woods anew.
Uh, oh!
Expressing surprise or alarm.
Out in the dark, a shadow sound
A mysterious sound emanates from the darkness.
Fear to look, but turn around
Fearful of facing it, yet compelled to turn around.
I realize I'm face to face
Realizing a direct encounter.
Two yellow eyes, an evil gaze
Gazing into menacing yellow eyes.
Ugly blood hound, no wagging tail
An unpleasant bloodhound without a friendly demeanor.
How long has he been on my trail?
Questioning how long it has been trailing me.
Down to the bridge, he's leading me
Being led by it toward the bridge.
What is it he wants me to see?
Contemplating the purpose behind this direction.
Uh, oh!
Already we've arrived, here I am
Arrival at the bridge, noting the absence of the expected figure.
There's the bridge, where's the man, What a scam!
Realizing the deception regarding the bridge's tale.
That story 'bout the bridge isn't true
Enjoying the situation and the scenic view.
I'm enjoying myself, what a view!
They say the bridge is not what it is
Suggesting the bridge's deceptive nature.
No one ever comes back, so they say
Warning about no return for those who venture there.
What could happen to me, anyway?
Contemplating the potential dangers, yet feeling invincible.
From away, a tall man comes to me
A tall stranger approaches, possibly awaiting my arrival.
Has he been here waiting, just for me?
Questioning the purpose of his presence.
He says there's no more fishing in the lake
Declaring the end of fishing in the lake.
But one thing for sure, I'm the catch of the day!
A dark humor about being the prey of the situation.
This is what happens
Warning of the consequences when seeking something precious.
When one looks for gold
Transformation into something dull and lifeless.
Turn'd into gray stone
Metaphorically cast down into depths.
And down deep you are thrown!!
Condemnation into a dark place.
All this is over [Repeat x4]
Reflecting on the finality of the experience, repeated for emphasis.
