Not so long ago
Refers to a recent past.
We were still children
At that time, the individuals were still young.
Forever in search of kicks
Constantly seeking excitement or thrills.
But never alone
Despite the search for excitement, they were always together or in company.
We tried to eat only
They attempted to consume the inner part of grapes.
The inside of these grapes
Leaving the outer green skin intact.
And leave the light green skin on
Intentionally preserving the skin for birds to discover or eat.
For the birds to find
Leaving food for birds by not eating the whole grape.
We used to tell stories
Engaged in sharing tales about people.
Of women and of men
Discussing stories of both genders.
And leave the parts that hurt out
Omitting painful or distressing aspects of the stories.
Until a bird came by
Until a bird arrived at the scene.
Came by the bench
The bird approached the bench or location.
We lied for no reason
Telling falsehoods without a valid motive.
These lies lasted years
These untruths continued for an extended duration.
Till we started to believe them
Eventually, they began believing their own lies.
Then a bird came by
Then another bird arrived.
Bye bye bye
A farewell repeated three times.
