Where the white folk can grow to know so
Highlighting a lack of understanding among white people about the black culture.
Very little about the black folk
Expressing the limited knowledge white individuals have about the black community.
The same folk who rightfully own
Noting that the land belongs rightfully to the indigenous people.
This piece of beauty that we call our home
Acknowledging the beauty of the land as the home of both communities.
Well negativity is often heard from society
Commenting on the prevalence of negativity in society.
With conviction they preach
People express negative views without understanding the subject.
Not even knowing of whom they speak
Highlighting the ignorance of those who speak negatively without knowledge.
I guess it's each to their own
Recognizing diversity in opinions, suggesting everyone has their own perspective.
Those that want to will know
Those who seek understanding will find it.

Reiterating the idea that perspectives vary and everyone is entitled to their own.
Because from the top the views are old and grey
From a higher perspective, things may seem dull and lacking vibrancy.
Well I feel so ashamed
Expressing shame regarding the societal system and its ways.
Of this system and these ways
Reflecting on the shortcomings of the system and its leaders.
The tiny hearts that lead our nation
Commenting on the influence of small-minded individuals leading the nation.
And tiny minds that let them in
Criticizing the narrow-mindedness that allows inadequate leaders to rise to power.
And I see your confusion
Recognizing the confusion and pain of others.
I see your pain
Empathizing with the pain experienced by others.
I see your pain and your confusion
Observing both pain and confusion in others.
And there's still some with my skin
Noting the existence of individuals with shared cultural background who may contribute to understanding.
Who still try and hide the reason
Some individuals with a common heritage still attempt to conceal the underlying issues.
