Why do the nations rage
Questioning the reason behind the anger of nations.
And the peoples plot in vain
Highlighting the futility of people's plotting and scheming.
The kings of the earth set themselves
Describing the defiance of earthly kings against divine authority.
And the rulers take counsel together
Portraying rulers uniting in opposition to the Lord.
Against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying
Expressing their rebellion, declaring freedom from divine control.
Let us burst their bonds apart
Continuing the rebellious sentiment, advocating breaking free.
And cast away their cords from us
Rejecting any constraints imposed by the divine authority.
He who sits in the heavens laughs
Depicting God's response with laughter at their futile efforts.
The Lord holds them in derision
God holds them in contempt, showing their insignificance.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath
Describing God's impending judgment with anger and fury.
And terrify them in his fury, saying
God's declaration of establishing His chosen King.
As for me, I have set my King

And rejoice with trembling
Promoting joy in divine service but with a sense of awe.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
Advising submission to the Son to avoid divine wrath.
And you perish in the way
Highlighting the consequences of rejecting the Son.
For his wrath is quickly kindled
Warning about the swift ignition of divine wrath.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him
Declaring blessings for those seeking refuge in the Lord.
