The Angels announced the first Noel to certain poor shepherds.
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
The shepherds were in fields, and the announcement occurred as they lay there.
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
The shepherds were keeping their sheep in the fields.
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
It was a cold winter's night when this happened.

To seek for a King was their intent
Their purpose was to seek a King.
And to follow the star wherever it went.
They intended to follow the star wherever it led.

This star drew nigh to the northwest
The star moved close to the northwest.

It paused and stayed there.
Right o'er the place where Jesus lay.
Directly over the place where Jesus lay.

Then entered in those Wise men three
Three Wise men entered reverently and knelt before Jesus.
Full reverently upon their knee
They offered gold, myrrh, and frankincense in His presence.
And offered there in His presence
Expressing the solemnity of the Wise men's actions.
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
The gifts presented to Jesus.

Reaffirmation of the birth of the King of Israel.
Then let us all with one accord
A call for everyone to sing praises to the heavenly Lord.
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
Specifically acknowledging the Lord who made Heaven and earth out of nothing.
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought
Highlighting the significance of the Lord's sacrifice with His blood.
And with his blood mankind has bought.
Emphasis on mankind being redeemed through His blood.
