Shapes of Things
Reflections on Time: Black Stone Cherry's Poetic JourneyLyrics
Shapes of things before my eyes
Contemplating the forms and aspects of things in front of me
Just teach me to despise
Instruct me in the art of disdain
Will time make men more wise?
Questioning whether time will bring increased wisdom to humanity
Here within my lonely frame
In my isolated state, contemplating my surroundings
My eyes just heard my brain
My eyes conveying information to my brain
But will it seem the same?
Wondering if the perception will remain consistent
Come tomorrow, will I be older?
Speculating about aging and the changes it brings
Come tomorrow, may be a soldier
Considering the possibility of becoming a soldier in the future
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?
Hoping to become more courageous and assertive with time
Now the trees are almost green
Observing the changing color of trees as a metaphor for transformation
But will they still be seen
Questioning whether these changes will still be noticeable
When time and tide have been?
Contemplating the impact of time and experience
Fallin' into your passing hands
Referring to the vulnerability of the environment in human hands
Please don't destroy these lands
Pleading not to harm or ruin the natural landscape
Don't make them desert sands
Urging the preservation of lands instead of turning them into deserts
Come tomorrow, will I be older?
Repeating the contemplation of aging and its potential effects
Come tomorrow, may be a soldier
Reiterating the consideration of a possible future military role
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?
Expressing a desire for increased boldness and courage
Soon I hope that I will find
Anticipating discovering profound thoughts within one's mind
Thoughts deep within my mind
Desiring thoughts that won't displace or harm one's own kind
That won't displace my kind
Expressing a hope for mental stability and harmony
