Lyrics

I guess I'll never grow a side-burn

I will never cultivate a sideburn.

It's a shame with all I've got to go between

Despite having a lot, it's unfortunate to deal with various challenges.

I hope somebody's cause takes soon

Hope someone's cause or purpose succeeds soon.

It's getting hard to find a place a root can sink

Finding a stable foundation becomes difficult.

Mama said a lot of things and be thankful was the one she never minded saying twice

Mother often emphasized gratitude, especially being thankful.

Thanks to her I can think clear enough,

Thanks to her influence, I can think clearly.

To be thankful that she died before tonight

I'm grateful she passed away before tonight.

Saving everybody takes a man on a mission

Rescuing everyone requires a dedicated mission.

With a swagger that can set the world at ease

A confident demeanor that can bring comfort to the world.

Some believe it's God's own hand on the trigger

Some believe divine intervention causes events, while others deal with consequences.

And the other dumping water in the streets

One hand triggers chaos, the other tries to mitigate the aftermath.

Talking tough is easy when it's other people's evil

Judging others based on their beliefs or actions.

It seems to me you'd have to have a hole you're own

Having flaws oneself is necessary before criticizing others.

Baby every bone in my body's gone to jumping

Feeling restless or anxious, like bones are jumping out of the skin.

Like they're gonna come through my skin

If bones could leave the body, it wouldn't matter, as they have no purpose.

If they could get along without the rest of me, it wouldn't matter if they did

Skeletons can't use money, emphasizing the uselessness of certain pursuits.

But skeletons ain't got nowhere to stick they're money

No place for skeletons to carry money, underscoring the futility of materialism.

Nobody makes britches that size

No one manufactures pants big enough for skeletons, highlighting impracticality.

And besides you're a ghost to most before they notice,

You become insignificant to most people before they realize you existed.

That you ever had a hair or a hide

People may not notice your existence, even if you had something valuable.

I don't know how good it does a man,

Questioning the significance of repeatedly telling someone they are free.

To keep on telling him how good it is he's free

Freedom may not bring real benefits if constantly reminded of its existence.

Free to wash his ghost down the drain,

Freedom allows one to wash away their past, but it can be dismissed easily.

And free for them to tell him there's no such a thing

Others may deny the existence of freedom, diminishing its value.
