Sometimes I Wish
Echoes of Lost Love: Gordon Lightfoot's Poetic ReflectionLyrics
Dreaming of a love I lost, the day the final bridge was crossed
Dwelling on a lost love that ended definitively.
Sometimes I wish that I could just forget
Expressing a desire to forget.
But the memory lingers yet and it hangs around
The memory persists and remains.
Leaving me low and leaving me down
Resulting in a feeling of sadness and dejection.
Everywhere I roam, there is nobody home
Feeling alone wherever one goes.
Even I should know, when it ain't my day there is no other way
Realizing that on bad days, there's no other option.
I begin to wake up, how wrong it was to cling to you
Recognizing the mistake of holding onto someone.
Sometimes I wish to hold you in my heart
Longing to keep the person in one's heart.
'Cause I can't keep us apart, forgiving you
Feeling unable to separate from them.
Was the easiest thing that I ever could do
Finding it easy to forgive despite the hurt.
Everywhere I go, there is no one I know
Encountering unfamiliarity in familiar places.
Even I can see, it's too late now to believe in a vow
Realizing it's too late to trust in promises.
As I wander I return, to days gone by there's much to be learned
Reflecting on the past to gain wisdom.
Sometimes I wish that miracles could be
Wishing for unlikely miracles.
But at best I fail to see any happening
Feeling doubtful about miracles occurring.
Some gotta lose and some gotta win
Recognizing the inevitability of some losing and others winning.
Everywhere I roam, there is nobody home
Sensing emptiness in different places.
Even I should know, when it ain't my day there is no other way
Understanding the lack of alternatives on bad days.
Everywhere I go, there is no one I know
Encountering unfamiliarity in familiar places.
Even I can see, it's too late now to believe in a vow
Realizing it's too late to trust in promises.
You're leaving right now
Noting the departure of the person.
