Baseline
Discovering Self-Resilience: Haley Hoffman Smith's BaselineLyrics
Sometimes I'm all that you want
Sometimes, I fulfill all your desires and needs.
Sometimes you're a million miles away
At times, you feel emotionally distant and unreachable, like a million miles away.
Thought we'd head in one direction
We initially planned to move in a specific direction together.
But the trend always makes you fade
However, external influences consistently cause you to lose interest or commitment.
And every time we're in the high
During positive moments, I disregard the negative thoughts or doubts.
I ignore the whispers of the low
Despite challenges, I ignore pessimistic influences and stay positive.
Calling out from deep within us
Internal struggles and conflicts are acknowledged.
Promising it's lurking down below
A promise of hidden troubles or challenges lies beneath the surface.
And I thought I wanted to be your favorite high
Initially, I wanted to be the source of your happiness.
But I'm begging now to make me your baseline
Now, I'm pleading to be your stable foundation or reference point.
A space to land, a place to hide, to realize
A safe place to land, a refuge to hide, and an opportunity for self-realization.
It's safe and warm at the baseline
Feeling secure and comfortable in the established baseline.
And I waited, but it never came
Despite waiting, the expected relief or change didn't materialize.
The relief from the drought then pouring rain
The anticipated improvement after a difficult period did not occur.
And all my hope for peace just washed away
All hope for peace and resolution fades away.
So I found it in my own frame
Instead of waiting, I found solace within my own understanding or perspective.
I gave myself what you couldn't change
I provided myself with what you were unable to change or offer.
So now I choose to be my favorite high
Now, I actively choose to be the source of my own happiness.
And I've built within myself a baseline
Within myself, I have established a stable and reliable reference point.
A place to land, a space to thrive
A place to land, a space to thrive, and an understanding that it's safe and warm.
To realize it's safe and warm
A realization that I am my own baseline.
And I'm my baseline
Emphasizing that I am my own stable foundation.
I'm my baseline
Reiteration that I am my own baseline.
Yeah I'm my baseline
A confirmation that I am indeed my own stable and reliable reference point.
