Lyrics
For years and years I've rambled
Reflecting on a life spent wandering or traveling without a settled home.
Drank my wines and gambled
Indulging in drinking and gambling activities during the wandering years.
But one day I thought I'd settle down

I met a perfect lady

She said she'd be my baby

We built a cottage in the old hometown
Building a home together in their hometown.
But somehow I can't forget
Struggling to forget or let go of the past wandering lifestyle.
My good old rambling days
Longing for the carefree days of traveling and wandering.
Now the railroad trains are calling me away
Feeling the pull of trains and the desire to travel again.
Well I may be rough
Admitting to possessing rough qualities.
I may be wild
Accepting a wild and untamed nature.
I may be tough and out of style
Acknowledging being tough and possibly outdated in style.
But I can't give up
Unable to abandon the old wild and untamed ways.
My good old rough and rowdy ways
Expressing a fondness or attachment to the rough lifestyle.
Now sometimes when I meet a bounder
Encountering individuals from the past who remember the wilder days.
Who knew me when I was a rounder
Meeting someone who knew the speaker during their wilder times.
He grabs my hand and says boy have a drink
Being encouraged or tempted to indulge in drinking again.
We'd go down to the poolroom
Visiting a poolroom, a place associated with the past wild lifestyle.
Get in the gang and then soon
Joining a group of friends or acquaintances and losing track of time.
The daylight comes before I had a wink
Realizing the day has begun before getting any sleep.
But somehow I can't forget
Continuing to struggle with memories of the past wild ways.
