At which point would the things holding it to this state
Identifying obstacles holding back change
This person
Referring to the individual undergoing change
Relinquish their grasp
Releasing the hold on the current state
Release it into a cave in which it could molt its skin and crawl

And then what is it?

And the other ends of the ropes around its neck, where would they be?
Addressing the lingering ties to the past
In the fists of those across from it?
Questioning who holds the remnants of the past
Or instead dangling beneath it, catching its feet as it runs and tangling in with moss and root?
Exploring the entanglement of the transformed being with its past
And upon leaving cave, it should be foreign to all former familiars

And the dew from the grass slides coolly along its tail
Highlighting the tactile sensations of the transformed chameleon
But should this chameleon come across pond or puddle or pool
Considering the potential for self-reflection at a water source
Should it crane its head down to water to drink
Describing the act of self-examination in the transformed state
Should it glance its own eyes
Reflecting on self-awareness through the chameleon's gaze
Should it see in its gaze a shimmer of its old self
Acknowledging glimpses of the past self in the transformed state
Should it experience recognition, memory
Exploring the resurgence of recognition and memory in the transformed being
What then of those knowing vile eyes that pull from its stomach the visions of past lives?
Addressing the impact of external judgment on the transformed being
Must they not also go?
Questioning the necessity of shedding judgmental influences
No, can they be masked?
Contemplating the possibility of concealing external influences
And so skin mutates, mottles, and molts again
Describing a continuous cycle of transformation and renewal
And then it returns to water
Symbolizing a return to a formative environment
But still, in those eyes that know, it sees
Addressing the persistence of self-awareness despite transformation
And so now, newly blind chameleon crawls through thicket and dense dirty forest
Depicting a blinded state in the transformed chameleon
And clambors over moss and root
Illustrating the challenges faced in navigating a transformed existence
And collides with trunk and branch
