I have listened to many sermons and heard preachers deliver their messages.
I heard a lot of singers that inspired me
I have been inspired by many singers through their performances.
Spent a lot of Sundays setting on a church pew
I have spent numerous Sundays sitting in a church pew.
Putting in my Jesus time like I'm supposed to do
I have dedicated time to religious activities, like attending church, in accordance with my Christian beliefs.
I wanna' go deeper
I desire to deepen my spiritual connection.
Than toting that black book
I want to go beyond simply carrying the Bible (black book).

I want to go deeper than having a superficially divine appearance.
I wanna' go deeper to the solid rock that anchors our soul
I aspire to go deeper into the solid foundation, symbolized as a rock, that anchors our soul.
Rest our faith on that cornerstone
To base our faith on the cornerstone, a fundamental and unshakable belief.

I was taking under in a water grave
I was immersed in a symbolic water grave through a baptism or religious ritual.
I testified to the church that I was saved
I publicly declared to the church that I have been saved or spiritually redeemed.
I became a member
I officially became a member of the church community.
I shook the reverend's hand
I greeted the reverend, a sign of respect and acknowledgment of the religious authority.
Just to find that I fell short
Despite my efforts, I discovered that I fell short spiritually.
I needed more than that
I realized that I needed more than the outward expressions of faith.
I had to go deeper
I had to delve into a deeper spiritual understanding and connection.
