Take a look at your children
Directing attention to the innocence of children.
Born innocent, every boy and every girl,
Emphasizing the innate purity of every boy and girl at birth.
Denying themselves a real chance
Children denying themselves opportunities to create a better world.
To build a better world,
Expressing concern for the degradation of a dream to build a better world.
Oh! dear lord what's happening to your precious dream
Appealing to a higher power about the tragic state of the dream.

Suggesting the dream is fading away amidst violence and bloodshed.
Yes, take a look at your children
Reiterating the importance of examining the state of children.

Advising to convey to children that nobody truly wins in a world filled with hatred.
Nobody wins when the prize is hate
Reinforcing the idea that hate leads to no positive outcomes.
