The Church's one foundation
The Church has a singular foundation.
Is Jesus Christ her Lord
Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Church.
She is His new creation
The Church is a new creation belonging to Jesus.
By water and the word.
Transformation through water and the word.
From heaven He came
Jesus descended from heaven.
And sought her to be His holy bride
He pursued the Church to be His sacred partner.
With His own blood He bought her,
He redeemed the Church with His own blood.
And for her life He died.
He sacrificed His life for the Church.
Elect from every nation,
The Church is chosen from every nation.
Yet one o'er all the earth,
Unified over the entire earth.
Her charter of salvation:
Her foundation for salvation is one.
One Lord, one faith , one birth.
Unity in the Lord, faith, and birth.
One holy name she blesses,
She invokes one holy name.
Partakes one holy food,
Partakes in one holy food.
And to one hope she presses,
She aspires to one hope, adorned with every grace.
With every grace endued.
'Mid toil and tribulation
The Church perseveres.
And tumult of her war,
Awaiting the fulfillment of lasting peace.
She waits the consummation
Anticipating the end of her spiritual battle.
Of peace forevermore
Till with the vision glorious,
Until blessed with the glorious vision,
Her longing eyes are blest,
Her eyes yearn for fulfillment.
And the great church victorious
The triumphant Church at rest.
Shall be the church at rest.
The victorious and peaceful Church.
