The Darkness
Embracing Shadows: Rose Cousins' Poetic Journey into the DepthsLyrics
To take the light into the dark is to know the dark
To bring understanding to difficult situations is to be familiar with those situations.
To know the dark, go into the dark
To comprehend darkness, one must confront and experience it.
You can lock the door, yeah you know how
It is possible to protect oneself from external influences, but...
You can stay alone, you're so proud but
Despite self-isolation and pride, there are limits to keeping negative forces away.
You can't keep the darkness out
The darkness, symbolic of troubles or challenges, cannot be completely avoided.
You're probably the strongest one I know
Acknowledging someone's strength and resilience.
You've got the thickest skin
Having a strong exterior, being tough.
You've got weight to throw but
Despite personal power and influence, there are limitations.
You can't keep the darkness out
The darkness cannot be completely excluded or avoided.
Whatever hurt you, what keeps you mad
Addressing emotional pain and anger.
Wants you to let it go, let it pass
Suggesting the need to release and move past negative emotions.
When memories turn to doubt
When memories become uncertain, the darkness may seep in.
You can't keep the darkness out
The inevitability of facing challenges, even when trying to avoid them.
The dark is a river
Describing the dark as a flowing and continuous force.
Though it may divide
Recognizing that the dark may create divisions.
If you wade into it, with your arms open wide
Encouraging acceptance and immersion into challenges.
Let it take you with it, you don't have to fight
Suggesting that surrendering to difficulties may be more beneficial than resisting.
It will provide
Implying that challenges can offer something valuable.
There's nothing wrong with the heart in your chest
Asserting the inherent goodness of the heart despite its burdens.
It might be heavy but it's innocent
Recognizing the weight of emotions but emphasizing their innocence.
It can't keep the darkness out
The heart cannot shield itself completely from life's challenges.
