Lyrics
So we trade our lives in for that fragile piece of mind
Individuals exchange their lives for a sense of peace that seems delicate.
That tells us everything is gonna be okay.
This fragile peace reassures them that everything will be fine.
We work our lives away and keep our savings saved,
People spend their lives working and saving for the future.
And wait inside for a rainy day.
They wait indoors, anticipating a future rainy day.
But all that time the sun is shining.
Despite this, the sun continues to shine, implying missed opportunities.
All those days are lost we convince ourselves
We lose days convincing ourselves that we need a purpose.
We need a purpose, and when it's not too clear
When uncertain about our purpose, we follow societal paths.
Why all of us are here we follow the path that's made for us.
We follow a predetermined path without understanding why we exist.
And we'll sit around
We reflect and ponder the changes in our lives.
And wonder what has happened to our lives
Realization hits when we discover our purpose lacks meaning.
When we realize that our purpose has no purpose,
Our chosen purposes lead to emptiness.
That the lives we could have had we all left for dead
We abandon potential fulfilling lives for ones we leave "for dead."
When we let our lives be lived for us.
When we let others dictate and live our lives for us.
I once knew a girl who wanted all the world
A story of a girl who desired much but settled for simplicity.
But she settled for the simple life instead,
She opted for an uncomplicated life instead of grand aspirations.
After years of nine-to-five,
After years of routine work (nine-to-five).
That yearning feeling died she joined the ranks of the living dead.
Her ambition faded, and she joined a monotonous existence.
And all that time the sun was shining all her days were lost,
While the sun shone, she lost precious days in a purposeless life.
She'd convinced herself she'd need a purpose,
Convincing herself of needing a purpose without clarity.
And when it wasn't clear,
The reason she was here she followed just like a lot of us.
She followed a predetermined path, akin to many others.
She sat around and wondered what had happened to her life,
Reflecting on her life, she wondered about the rushed pace.
Everything seemed to be in such a rush.
Everything seemed hurried and lacking fulfillment.
The dreams she could have had were not the ones she had,
Her dreams differed from the reality she experienced.
And she realized it wasn't enough.
Realizing that her current life was insufficient.
