Jesus was a man who kept the company of men
Jesus associated with people.
Till he got betrayed by one of them
Jesus was betrayed by one of his companions.
And surely that must have been
The betrayal was a significant sin.
The biggest sin
Labeling betrayal as a major sin.
But in his final hour, he even forgave him
Even in his final moments, Jesus forgave the betrayer.
And what he asked you then
Asking a similar forgiveness from the listener.
Well I now ask you too
The listener is urged to consider the request.
"Father, forgive them
Quoting Jesus' plea for forgiveness from the cross.
For they know not what they do"
Emphasizing the lack of awareness in the actions of those who betrayed Jesus.
For they too have their cross to bear
Exploring the burdens and challenges others face.
In your love, please let them share
Requesting empathy and sharing of love for those facing difficulties.
For Jesus would have understood
Jesus would have understood the struggles of others.
And brought them home to you
Jesus would guide them back to God.

Now, most of us are troubled
People are often troubled and fail to understand certain things.
And we cannot understand
Expressing a lack of comprehension for things outside one's plans.

Our tendency to categorize and plan.
Our scheme or plan
We are responsible for creating rules.
But it's we have made the rules
Humans share blame for making outsiders.
And we must share the blame
Acknowledging the role we play in giving names to outsiders.
For it's we who make outsiders
Suggesting a need for more than just prayers, but self-reflection and change.
And it's we who give them names
We must seek forgiveness for our own actions.
And while we're praying for them
While praying for others, acknowledging the need for personal forgiveness.
What we really ought to do
Suggesting a shift from mere prayers to self-improvement.
Is say, "Father, forgive them, but please
Quoting Jesus' plea again, adding a personal plea for forgiveness.
Forgive us too"
Highlighting the universal need for forgiveness.
