If it wasn’t for the meds I’d have tried to end my life

Reflecting on past thoughts of attempting suicide multiple times.

-got way too much to say but I gotta make it rhyme
Having a lot to say but needing to express it in a rhyming manner.
gotta count out every syllable to make up every line
Highlighting the constraint of counting syllables to create poetic lines.
but what does that matter when we’re running out of time
Raising the question of the significance of poetry when time is running out.

Introducing the idea of the dying planet.
the planet is dying, it won’t happen slow
Expressing concern about the imminent demise of the planet and questioning the future.
Soon it will be gone and then where do we go?
-And what am I to do except shout from my gut
Feeling a need to speak out, but recognizing the limitations in influencing those in power.
but all of my complaining won’t shut trump up
-everyone is blind and they’re stuck in a rutt
Observing societal blindness and questioning the point of resistance.
at what point do I give in and give up?
-Survival is all that we cling to

I can see my grandma tutting and my grandad snoring

Contrasting materialism with a desire to live for love rather than hate.
Said I wanna live for love and I don’t wanna live for hate
-oh wait, isn’t that great, you’re the one telling me you feel betrayed?
Ironically pointing out the contradiction in feeling betrayed while trying to save the days.
bloody hell we’re the one’s trying to save our days
-I could be full of rage but I save it for the stage
Choosing to channel rage into artistic expression on stage.
Survival is all that we cling to but none of us are fit enough
Reiterating the theme of survival and the lack of fitness for the challenges.
There’s an aching in this country, a subtlety that most can’t see
Highlighting an unnoticed ache or problem in the country.
people are breaking and still they can’t afford to eat
Commenting on the struggle of people who cannot afford to eat despite the country's resources.
Yet at my fingertips, I can see the whole wide world
Recognizing global connectivity and the contrast of different lived experiences.
Step off my island, and could be killed for loving a girl
Addressing the challenges faced by those outside one's immediate surroundings, such as discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Stars can’t align when the Sun’s the only thing that you read
-open your mind, don’t blame the worker underneath
Encouraging open-mindedness and discouraging blaming those who are not responsible.
