Regal Folly Unveiled: A Satirical Reflection on Aristocratic AbsurdityLyrics
The painter was dismissed today
The painter was fired today.
We paid him off and put him away
We settled with him financially and removed him from our surroundings.
He'd drawn us true to life and then
He depicted us accurately in his previous work.
He'd just refused to do it again
However, he refused to replicate it.
For we were not amused at all
We were not pleased to have a portrait on display.
To see a painting upon the wall
The painting revealed our foolishness.
Which clearly showed what fools were we
It highlighted our mistake in protecting a lineage.
To jealously guard a pedigree
We were overly possessive of our ancestry.
We were all so very concerned
We were deeply troubled to observe the commoners' ignorance.
To see the commoners never learned
They failed to grasp the negative consequences of inter-breeding.
That inter-breeding could be blamed
Inter-breeding was considered responsible for the decline in royal intelligence.
For the decline of the regal brain
It was perceived as the cause of the decline in regal mental faculties.
Indeed the blood was truly blue
The royal blood was authentically blue, but it became thinner over time.
But thinner with time, alas, we knew
Unfortunately, the royal lineage suffered a decrease in purity.
Now we are all a little insane
As a result, everyone in the family became somewhat insane.
And life can never be the same
Life was irreversibly altered.
Mister Goya, we all declare
The painter Goya was criticized for being unkind and unfair.
Was most unkind and very unfair
His portrayal of the royals was seen as unfavorable.
To paint us in the way he did
Goya depicted the royals as if they had lost their sanity.
As if the royals had lost their lids
It was an unflattering representation.
Damn it all, the family pets
Even the family pets seemed like a better option in comparison.
Were made to look a safer bet
The pets were more favorably portrayed.
Because we give a regal hoot
Because we, as royals, didn't care much about public opinion.
Somebody always cocks a snoot
Someone always disrespects or mocks us.
