You exist if fortunate, then eventually face mortality.
And I've seen a few things that I wish I hadn't seen
Experienced events that are regrettable or unpleasant.
But I won't hide my head in fear or in shame
Refusing to avoid challenges or conceal oneself due to fear or shame.
And I'll see more before my time's through
Anticipating more experiences before the end of one's life.
Now I think my life's been a joke for a while
Reflecting on life as a source of amusement for a considerable time.
And there's a hundred million places or things I'd rather be
Desire to be elsewhere or engage in different activities.
But I don't know just how to start or even find my own way out the door
Feeling lost and uncertain about how to initiate change.
Someday the dark is gonna chase out the light
Expectation of challenges overcoming positive aspects.
We'll trade the mountains and the trees
Trading natural beauty for harsh, icy landscapes.
And all the birds and all the bees for icy fields and frozen streams
Expressing urgency to seize opportunities before environmental consequences.
So I say, man, better get yours while you can
Encouraging others to pursue their desires promptly.
Cause' Mother Earth is gonna shake us like a sickening disease
Warning of potential severe consequences from ecological imbalance.
There'll be nowhere left to run and hide from our atrocities
Facing a future where there's no escape from the repercussions of human actions.
And we all know the jig is up
Acknowledging awareness that deceitful actions have been exposed.
And we've been caught drunk and high behind the wheel
Admitting to irresponsible behavior under the influence.
I've been called a piece of shit and called a saint
Experiencing a range of judgments from others.
And I know from time to time I haven't done the brightest things
Acknowledging personal mistakes without justifying them.
But all my friends, I wish you love, I wish you peace, and to my enemies the same
Wishing love and peace to friends and enemies alike.
Cause' man it's hard just being human with all these wants and all these needs
Highlighting the difficulties of being human with desires and needs.
All this cursed higher consciousness and bouts with brain disease
Mentioning challenges associated with consciousness and mental health.
All you can do is play the hand that you've been dealt and try to love with all your might
Advocating making the best of one's circumstances and embracing love.
Cause' I feel black, I feel white, I feel heavy, I feel light
Expressing diverse and conflicting emotions and experiences.
I think I'm just a little fried but maybe onto something right
Suggesting a state of confusion or weariness but hinting at a potential insight.
But man it's hard to see the road with heavy eyes when you just want to go to sleep
Difficulty in navigating life's path due to weariness and desire for rest.
When the ships have all sailed from the bay
Metaphorically referring to missed opportunities or departures.
Maybe someday down the line in some greater place or greater time
Hoping for a future where humanity discovers commonality and purpose.
We will find out who we are or what we are, and that we're maybe all the same
Reflecting on a shared human identity despite differences.
So let's all stand up to the demons that still haunt us from our past
Encouraging confronting and overcoming personal demons from the past.
We can scream at them and tell them that we're not so fucking bad
Asserting that individuals have the capacity for positive change.
But we still need some time to heal and wipe this dirty filthy guilt off of our hands
Acknowledging the need for time to heal and overcome guilt.
