The first Noel the angel did say
The angel proclaimed the first announcement of the birth of Jesus (Noel) to certain poor shepherds.
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay:
These shepherds were in fields, and the angel conveyed the message to them while they were lying down.
In fields where they lay a-keeping their sheep
The shepherds were tending to their sheep in the fields where the angel delivered the message.
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

A call to all to unite in singing praises to the heavenly Lord who created everything and redeemed mankind with his blood.
