All the Will in the World
Unyielding Struggle: The Inner Turmoil in 'All the Will in the World'Lyrics
More desire than you or I
There's a stronger desire present in this person than in either you or me.
It's a wonder to be sure
It's remarkable and astonishing.
More hunger inside this guy
This individual feels a deeper hunger within them.
Still he waits outside the door
However, they're waiting outside, perhaps excluded or unable to access something.
Now I see him both bewildered and amazed
The person appears both confused and impressed.
At all of those fortunate
They observe others who are more fortunate.
Who are standing in his place
These fortunate individuals seem to be in the position the person desires.
And it looks like to me
From the speaker's viewpoint, the person is becoming accustomed to facing adversity.
He's getting used to being slapped in the face
Despite difficulties, they won't easily give up.
Cause he won't give up that easily
They strongly believe this is their path.
He's so sure that's who he's supposed to be
The speaker perceives this as a wrongdoing or tragedy.
And from where I'm standing
From the speaker's perspective.
It's looking like a crime to me
It feels like the person's determination is imprisoning them.
All of the will in the world don't let him be
All the determination in the world cannot allow the person to live freely.
It don't set him free
This determination doesn't grant them freedom.
More denying the obvious
There's a continuous denial of something evident.
Still he's trying to be heard
Despite this denial, the person is attempting to make themselves heard.
More years devoted than all of us
They've devoted more years to something than others.
His perception's obscured
But their understanding or view is clouded or distorted.
So now I see him both alone and ashamed
The person is now seen as both isolated and embarrassed.
Far off the mark in which in his youth he had aimed
They've veered far from their original goals set in youth.
And it looks like to me
From the speaker's standpoint, the person should exit the situation.
He ought to get the hell out of the game
Despite suggestions, they won't easily give up.
But he won't give up that easily
They firmly believe this is their destined path.
Cause he's so sure that's who he's supposed to be
The speaker views this as a tragedy or mistake.
And from where I'm standing
From the speaker's viewpoint.
It's looking like a crime to me
It feels like the person's determination is imprisoning them.
All of the will in the world don't let him be
All the determination in the world cannot allow the person to live freely.
It don't set him free
This determination doesn't grant them freedom.
