Old Mister Johnson faced his own difficulties.
He had a yellow cat which wouldn't leave its home;
He had a yellow cat that refused to leave its home.
He tried and he tried to give the cat away,
Despite efforts, he attempted to give the cat away.
He gave it to a man goin' far, far away.
He gave the cat to a man traveling far away.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat returned repeatedly despite attempts to part with it.

The cat was given to a man going west, but the train derailed, leaving no survivors to share the story.

Once again, the cat defied death and returned.
