I'll Probably Be Out Fishin'
Life's Catch: Navigating Love's Seas and Workplace StormsLyrics
I had me a high school sweetheart,
I had a high school sweetheart.
With big time wedding plans
We had significant wedding plans.
Then I signed up with the Navy,
I joined the Navy and worked for Uncle Sam.
Went to work for Uncle Sam
I served my country in the military.
Eighteen lonely months I've waited,
I waited eighteen months to see my sweetheart again.
To see her again
Upon my return to Gainsville, I discovered she married my best friend.
When I got home to Gainsville,
She married my best friend
Feeling betrayed, I contemplate what to say or do.
What's a guy to say?
Expressing the confusion and pain of the situation.
What's a guy to do?
Questioning how to cope with the heartbreak.
I can paint this whole town red tonight,
Despite potential distractions, the emotional pain persists.
And still wake up with the blues
A realization that external activities may not heal the internal wounds.
Good luck is bound to find me,
Hopeful that good luck will come my way.
If it comes around again,
If luck returns, it might not be immediately recognized.
But I'll probably be out fishing,
Anticipating success but acknowledging personal priorities.
When my ship comes in
Expecting success, but I'll likely be occupied with fishing when it happens.
Took a job down at the saw mill,
Started working at a sawmill.
Where I worked hard everyday
Diligently worked hard every day.
Climb that corporate ladder,
Climbed the corporate ladder and received a significant raise.
I was promoted with a big ol' raise
The very next morning they told me,
-That old saw mill had been sold
Someone else will take my position; I was laid off and sent home.
Someone's gonna take your position boy,
They wrote me off and sent me home
Facing uncertainty, contemplating words and actions.
What's a guy to say?
Reflecting on the challenges and seeking a way forward.
What's a guy to do?
I can paint this whole town red tonight,
Similar to the first situation, external actions may not bring lasting happiness.
And still wake up with the blues
Good luck is bound to find me,
Hopeful for a change in luck if given another opportunity.
If it comes around again,
If luck returns, I might miss it while occupied with fishing.
But I'll probably be out fishing,
Reiteration of the likelihood of being occupied with fishing when success comes.
When my ship comes in
I'll probably be out fishing,
-When my ship comes in
