I took a trip on the train

Embarking on a journey, specifically a train trip.

Thinking about the person during the train journey.

I passed a shadowy lane

Passing through a dimly lit pathway.

And I thought about you,

Continuing to think about the person during the journey.


Two or three cars parked under the stars

Observing a scene with parked cars under the stars.

A winding stream

Noticing a winding stream.

Moon shining down on some little town

Describing a moonlit night in a small town.

And with each beam, same old dream

Associating the moonlight with a recurring dream.


At every stop that we made

Reflecting on thoughts about the person at every stop of the train.

Oh, I thought about you

Continuing to think about the person at each train stop.

But when I pulled down the shade

Feeling a sense of melancholy when closing the window shade.

Then I really felt blue,

Experiencing sadness and emotional impact after closing the shade.


I peeked through the crack

Prying into the situation, peeking through a crack or opening.

And looked at the track

Examining the railroad track, possibly contemplating the journey back to the person.

The one going back to you

Identifying the track leading back to the person.

And what did I do

Reflecting on actions taken or decisions made regarding the return to the person.

I thought about you

Persisting in thoughts about the person.
