Seems that I read, or somebody said
Reflecting on something heard or read, possibly the idea that absence leads to forgetfulness.
That out of sight is out of mind
Suggesting the common belief that being out of sight can lead to being out of mind.
Maybe that's so but I tried to go
Despite the notion, the speaker attempted to move on and forget about the person.
And leave you behind, what did I find
Discovering the outcome of attempting to leave the person behind.
I took a trip on the train
Embarking on a journey via train.
And I thought about you,
Reflecting on the person while on the train.
I passed a shadowy lane
Passing through a dimly lit path or road.
And I thought about you,
Continuing to think about the person during the journey.
Two or three cars parked under the stars
Observing a scene with a few parked cars under the night sky.
A winding stream
Noticing a winding stream during the journey.
Moon shining down on some little town
Describing a picturesque scene with the moon shining on a small town.
And with each beam, same old dream
Associating the scene with a recurring dream, suggesting a longing or nostalgia.
At every stop that we made
Reflecting on the person at each stop made during the train journey.
Oh, I thought about you
Continuing to think about the person during the journey stops.
But when I pulled down the shade
Feeling a sense of sadness or melancholy when closing the window shade.
Then I really felt blue,
Experiencing a deeper sense of sadness after blocking the view.
I peeked through the crack
Peeking through a crack, perhaps indicating a lingering desire to connect or see the person.
And looked at the track
Observing the train track, possibly symbolizing the path leading back to the person.
The one going back to you
Contemplating the journey back to the person.
And what did I do
Considering the actions taken while reflecting on the person.
I thought about you
Concluding the contemplation, still thinking about the person.
