Seems that I read, or somebody said
Reflecting on something heard or read, possibly the idea that being out of sight leads to being forgotten.
That out of sight is out of mind
Considering the notion that if someone is not present, they are easily forgotten.
Maybe that's so but I tried to go
Despite the above notion, attempting to distance oneself and move on from the person in mind.
And leave you behind, what did I find
Discovering the outcome of the attempt to leave behind the person; the experience is about to be revealed.
I took a trip on the train
Embarking on a train journey.
And I thought about you,
Contemplating or reminiscing about the person during the train journey.
I passed a shadowy lane
Passing through a dimly lit street or path.
And I thought about you,
Continuing to think about the person while passing through the shadowy lane.
Two or three cars parked under the stars
Observing a scene with a few cars parked under the stars.
A winding stream
Noticing a winding stream during the journey.
Moon shining down on some little town
Describing the moon shining down on a small town.
And with each beam, same old dream
Associating the moonlight with recurring thoughts or dreams of the same nature.
At every stop that we made
Thinking about the person at every stop the train makes.
Oh, I thought about you
Continuing to reflect on the person during the journey.
But when I pulled down the shade
Feeling a sense of sadness or melancholy when blocking out external views.
Then I really felt blue,
Experiencing deep emotions, particularly sadness, upon closing the shade.
I peeked through the crack
Peeking through a crack, possibly indicating a desire to reconnect or check on the past.
And looked at the track
Observing the train tracks leading back to the person.
The one going back to you
Reflecting on the path that returns to the person.
And what did I do
Contemplating actions or decisions related to the return journey.
I thought about you
Persistently thinking about the person despite attempts to move on.
