I Thought About You
Wistful Journeys of Love: Reflections on 'I Thought About You' by Mose AllisonLyrics
Seems that I read, or somebody said
Reflecting on something he read or heard, possibly the saying "out of sight, out of mind."
That out of sight is out of mind
Considering the idea that if someone is not visible, they are easily forgotten.
Maybe that's so but I tried to go
Despite the belief, the speaker attempted to distance himself and move on.
And leave you behind, what did I find
Discovering something unexpected when trying to leave the past behind.
I took a trip on the train
Embarking on a train journey.
And I thought about you,
Contemplating memories or thoughts about someone (presumably the person he tried to leave behind).
I passed a shadowy lane
Passing through a dimly lit path or road.
And I thought about you,
Reflecting on thoughts about the person while passing through the shadowy lane.
Two or three cars parked under the stars
Observing a scene with parked cars under the stars.
A winding stream
Noticing a winding stream during the journey.
Moon shining down on some little town
Describing the moonlight over a small town.
And with each beam, same old dream
Associating the moonlight with a recurring dream.
At every stop that we made
Thinking about the person at every train stop.
Oh, I thought about you
Continuing to dwell on thoughts about the person.
But when I pulled down the shade
Feeling a sense of melancholy or sadness when closing the window shade.
Then I really felt blue,
Experiencing deep sadness or blues after trying to block out the thoughts.
I peeked through the crack
Sneaking a glance through a crack, possibly a metaphor for peeking into the past.
And looked at the track
Observing the train tracks leading back to the person.
The one going back to you
Contemplating the journey back to the past.
And what did I do
Reflecting on his actions and decisions regarding the past.
I thought about you
Continuing to think about the person, possibly indicating unresolved feelings.
